I could..

I could fall from anywhere:
Grace, Favour, Humility.
As long as you were there to catch me.

I could take a blow anywhere:
My skull, My heart, My pride.
If you were the one to land it.

I could watch all of my dreams fade:
Recognition. Conquest. Forgiveness.
If you were the one to wake me.

I could face all of my fears:
Regret and Age and Karma.
If I could only face you.

I could face the truth
Out running the fences
Back where we were
Those lonely people

Last tastes of cement
Cigarette ashes
Little halos that chase the tired eyes

Split rusted links
Little voices calling names
When caught in the wind

Moments together
Floating on water
Washing down the drain

Crisscrossing touches
Run down our sides
Deep as barbed wire

You’re just like a star
But you never shine like the sun

Two blue eyes
That could open up slowly
Covering everything with
Snow
White
Feathers

Just shine like the sun

Autumn

Bleached in the sun
Brambled mess-
handsome and sterile
Tabletop
Stump

Our dignified summer dinners
Below, Underfoot
Belly up in the sun
Rot the foul roots
Open-faced caskets
But just laugh
We turn and sigh
“How late it is…”

Take the tiny tree in my bedroom-
The tree in my bedroom

Cut off all the branches
Cut off all the branches
Cut off all the branches
Cut off all the branches

Let them hit the ground
as weak leaves in the fall
