Signals

I'd love to tell you how I came
To be the way I am today
But that just ain't the way that I behave

I'm the one who walks the walk
But doesn't ever talk the talk
That's necessary for understanding me

I'll lead you on, you'll play along
You'll think you've got me then I'm gone
I'll cheat on you without ever getting
Close enough to ravage you
I'll misdirect then damage you
Just because I can you know
Because hurting you
Comes naturally to me

Someday I might let you in
I might tell you everything
That depends on what you offer me

Because you are weak and I am strong
I will keep you hanging on
Until I'm bored of stringing you along

And when I'm gone you'll ask yourself
If you could trust somebody else
After everything that I have done
To mix the signals up so well
That when you meet somebody new
You're second guessing every move
And you will know
It's all because
Of me

Third person analytic observation or introspective self-portrait?

Regardless - a piece of work that stops one in their tracks. Worthy of numerous re-reads.

Wow. Reminds me of a song called "Loverman", by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. But only a little. This is much different.

You inhabit different voices really well.

"Because you are weak and I am strong
I will keep you hanging on
Until I'm bored of stringing you along"

That's some cold, in-your-face verse. There are people exactly like that, that's what they learned: cruel, emotional sport. And the lines work well, each word and the rhythm it suggests fit just right.
